EurActiv reported on the 13 February 2014 that the European Commission's country-specific recommendations for economic reforms in member states were increasingly targeting the healthcare sector.

During an event organised by the European Centre for International Political Economy (ECIPE) on the 27 March 2014, policymakers warned that current healthcare policies mightprove to be unsustainable in coming years, with increased demand and limited resources.
