The European Savings Banks Group is an association of 26 member organisations representing nearly 1,000 individual savings banks in all EU countries as well as the European Economic Area. It also has associate members in several Central and Eastern Europe countries. Altogether, the banks represented by member organisations have around 67,000 branches and nearly 730,000 employees. Founded in 1963 as the 'Savings Banks Group of the European Economic Community', its name was changed in 1988 to the European Savings Banks Group.
