Lawmakers from 47 European nations have strongly criticised, January 2008, a system of UN and EU sanctions against suspected backers of global terrorism, saying the use of terrorist blacklists violates fundamental rights.
The Council of Europe, the EU's rights watchdog, urged the United Nations and the European Union to overhaul procedures to blacklist individuals and groups suspected of having links to terrorism.
