The EIB is active in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific under the Cotonou partnership agreement which has as its main objective “reducing and eventually eradicating poverty consistent with the objective[s] of sustainable development”.
Microfinance is an important foundation for poverty alleviation and supports other development efforts, including the Millennium Development Goals, making a significant difference in the way poor people address development problems on their own terms.
