Summary: This paper analyses in depth the law of European Economic and Monetary Union, as well as its history, trends and prospects. The first section deals with the history of monetary union in Europe and outlines some basic concepts. Then, in the second section, the conditions for the adoption of the euro are discussed. The third section deals with economic union/economic policy coordination. Followed by an analysis of the European System of Central Banks and the European Central Bank and the law of the euro in the fourth section. The subsequent section deals with the external relations of the euro. Finally the last section presents some concluding observations and recommendations, as well as a brief update of recent developments. |
