European case law on the Judgments Convention:
Article 1 of Protocol No.2 of the Lugano Convention on Jurisdiction and the Enforcement of Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters of 1988 requires Contracting States' courts, when applying and interpreting the Convention's provisions, to pay due account to the decisions of courts of other Contracting States. Article 2(1) called for a system for exchange of information on judgments on Lugano and the 1968 Brussels Convention.

This substantial new source aims to facilitate this exchange by providing information, on a country by country basis, of the case law associated with the Conventions. For each country signatory to the Conventions (for the UK, separate chapters for England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) information is presented under up to five headings: Courts and legal system, which describes the national courts which deal with Convention disputes and their relative status within the national legal hierarchy; Convention implementation, which is concerned with dates of implementation of the 1968 Brussels Convention on Jurisdiction and the Enforcement of Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters, the Lugano Convention of 1988 of the same name, and with various Accession Conventions; Overview of Convention case law, which gives a brief summary of the Convention experience within each legal system; Convention cases, which includes accounts of national cases; Recent cases, which describes the most recent cases using the Conventions.

Following these country chapters there are sections reproducing the full English text of the Brussels Convention's provisions and Lugano variations, together with a selected bibliography of contributors' and other main writings in Convention and related fields.
