Europe frets as Poland heads down populist path

The worst fears of European political and business leaders about the Polish Government's new direction are being realised. In recent months there has been nationalist rhetoric, economic protectionism, difficult relations with other Member States, and in March 2006 a fierce argument with the country's national bank.
