Europe blows whistle on state railway aid

The European Commission adopted 30 April 2008 guidelines for State aid to railway undertakings. The guidelines clarify the rules governing public funding of these businesses. The Commission argues that this is one way to boost the liberalisation of the European rail industry and ensuring that public funding contributes to sustainable mobility in Europe.
