Euro puts Japanese ritual out of focus

Most Japanese officials consider it essential that they win verbal G7 support in their current endeavour to weaken the yen. Although the US has not ruled out bowing to Japan's demands, it has argued that, if the G7 statement does include a reference to the yen, this should not be 'Japan-specific' but accompanied by a reference to the euro.
