EURO developments: Bank charges. The Commission has announced further action to put pressure on banks to facilitate the use of the euro by reducing excessive bank charges. The Commission considers that a clear and detailed picture of level and structure of bank charges is essential to promote competition and thus reduce conversion and transfer fees. It has set a deadline of 31.3.99 for banks to publish additional information, and has provided means for the public to report details to the Commission of problems.
