Further information: The conference was held in Tirana, Albania. Two panels and six workshops provided the opportunities to exchange their views and experience and to work jointly on forward-looking initiatives for independent, sustainable and professional media in the region. During the meeting, the European Commission announced a package of investment in initiatives to support independent media outlets and boost regional cooperation among public service media. Background information: Freedom of media is one of the political criteria for the EU accession. A media conference bringing together representatives of media and media-organisations, stakeholders and policymakers from the Western Balkans and the European Union was held on 9-10 November 2017. The conference was dedicated to the relevance in the role of media in the framework of the accession process. |
