On 8-9 November 2016 in Brussels, the European Union and the Republic of Uzbekistan held their 13th Subcommittee meeting on Justice, Home Affairs, Human Rights and related issues.

The first day reviewed developments in Uzbekistan and in the EU related to human rights and democracy. The European Union referred to its Global Strategy which sets out the EU's ambition to support different paths to resilience, supporting inclusive and accountable governance, critical for the fight against terrorism, corruption and organised crime, and for the protection of Human Rights.

The second day of the Subcommittee allowed for a continued exchange of views on justice and home affairs, both in Uzbekistan as well as in the EU. The talks focused on issues such as violent extremism and radicalisation, the fight against terrorism, illicit drugs, migration and border management.
