The European Commission adopted a strategy to promote core labour standards and social governance globally, 18 July 2001. The Commission announces its wish to support the effective application of core labour standards at global level and pointed at the central role of the International Labour Organisation. However, the Commission is against attempts to include labour standards in world trade agreements and to enforce them through sanctions. |
