Summary: The 21st summit between Ukraine and the European Union (EU) was held on 8 July 2019. Further information: At the summit, leaders from both sides reaffirmed the strength of the bilateral political and economic ties and discussed both the implementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement and the the way ahead for bilateral relations. The EU reaffirmed the full support to Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and the implementation of the Minsk agreements. Leaders urged Russia to release the captured Ukrainian sailors and to ensure hindered and free passage to and from the Azov Sea. In this context, the EU decided to step up its support to the Azov Sea region with measures worth €10 million. The EU and Ukraine also condemned Russian measures entitling Ukrainian citizens of the areas currently not under the control of the government to apply for Russian citizenship in a simplified manner. In the margins of the summit, the European Commission adopted a package of measures to further support Ukraine's reform process. |
