EU tidal wave disaster action, January 2005

The Commission has quickly made available a comprehensive set of information in response to the tidal wave disaster affecting the Pacific Rim countries. Two particularly useful sites are the press packs at http://europa.eu.int/comm/press_room/presspacks/tsunami_asia/index_en.htm with key press releases, speeches and statements and the website of ECHO, the European Commission's Humanitarian Aid Office at http://europa.eu.int/comm/echo/whatsnew/tsunami_en.htm which can be reached directly from Europa's home page by clicking on the Asian Crisis icon. This site includes detailed information about aid offered, funding decisions already made, partner organisations working in the area, and support being offered by the European Commission with a planned rolling programme of aid. Links to further information are available form the site and no doubt information will continue to be added as further developments unfold.
