EU throws doubt on ‘open skies’ deals

The European Court of Justice's ruling on 5 November 2002 that key aspects of bilateral 'open skies' agreements were unlawful has left it unclear whether the European Commission or Member States will be able to negotiate aviation treaties with the United States. It could lead to a dispute with the US over treaties already in existence and possibly legal action over valuable airline routes.
