EU threatens tougher Burma sanctions

EU Foreign Ministers pledged on the 18 May 2009 to look at ways in which sanctions against Burma could be toughened in the wake of the country’s treatment of opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi. Meeting in Brussels at the GEAC, ministers strongly condemned the treatment of Suu Kyi, and called for her immediate release.
