EU tells Russia to drop air passenger data law

On the 7 June 2013, EUObserver reported on Russian lawmakers pushing through a new passenger name record (PNR) law that should come into force on 1 July 2013.

Under this law, European airlines might be forced to hand over passenger details to Russian authorities in contravention of EU privacy rules or face landing and overflight bans.

On the 27 June 2013, EUObserver reported that Russia had given EU six more months to develop negotiations so both parts could reach an agreement over passenger details.
