Summary: For the first time is its history, the European Union in setting out to prepare a macro-regional strategy - for the Baltic Sea Region. The European Commission has been asked to draft a Baltic Sea Strategy document by June 2009, which is to be adopted during the Swedish presidency of the EU in the second half of the year. The Strategy aims to identify and address the most immediate problems facing the Baltic Sea Region in the realms of the environment, economy, infrastructure and safety and security. |
