The EU Commissioner for Enterprise and Industry, Günter Verheugen, on 26 February 2009, attended the meeting of the Joint Committee on European Affairs to discuss the EU's plans to help Ireland and other EU states cope with the present economic situation. The meeting also provided a chance to hear the European Commission’s opinion on how Ireland was viewed at EU level and find out its attitude to Ireland’s response to the downturn. |
