The Sub-Committee, which was set up to consider Ireland’s future in the European Union in light of the Lisbon referendum result, heard presentations by Cardinal Seán Brady and the Reverend Timothy Bartlett. Following these and the discussions which followed, Alan Barrett, Senior Research Officer with the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) in Dublin, spoke about the future policy approach of Ireland within the European Union to immigration. He was followed by a delegation from the European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN). Finally, Deputy Bernard J Durkan and Deputy John Perry made presentations on the role of the Oireachtas (Irish Parliament) in EU affairs.
