EU signs deal to cut smuggling between two former Soviet states

The European Union signed on 7 October 2005 an EU-Moldova-Ukraine Memorandum of Understanding which seeks to reduce smuggling of contraband, especially arms and human trafficking across the border between Ukraine and Moldova. The understanding also aims to progress settlement of the conflict between Moldova and its Russian-backed enclave of Trans Dnestr.
