International lenders have met in Brussels on the 29 June 2009 in an attempt to come up with a rescue plan to help Ukraine to pay its upcoming gas bill, avoiding a gas cut off such as the one that left millions in the cold earlier in the year.

Progress was made in talks aimed at preventing the latest Russia - Ukraine gas dispute from becoming a full-blown crisis, the European Commission reported.
