Book abstract: Published annually the EU Information Handbook is now in its 16th edition and it continues to be the most comprehensive guide to the workings of the European Union. The guide provides the very latest information on the function, staff and structure of each of the Community institutions as well as details of governmental and non-governmental organisations. This 2003 edition includes all structural and personnel changes within the European Commission and the Council secretariats and a host of other committees and agencies. A new addition is the inclusion of the office numbers of the European officials working in the cabinets of the Commissioners and those in the Directorates General. From the international perspective, this edition of the handbook reflects the approaching enlargement of the EU with contacts for some 50 diplomatic and delegations around Europe. With transatlantic relations increasingly hitting the headlines in Europe, the role and functioning of the US governments is also explained. Easy to use, the guide may not in itself open doors but it will certainly make sure that enquirers are knocking on the right door, thereby proving an invaluable aid to all those having business in or with the European Union and its institutions. |
