Authorities from Burundi were expected to meet on 8 December 2015 in Brussels with several international stakeholders, in an attempt to halt the slide into violence which many feared might descend into civil war.

The meeting followed the European Union's decision in November 2015 to evacuate families and non-key staff from the country. Analysts considered further aid from the EU to the country might be at stake, should the meeting provide no results. Some grants had already been put in hold in the wake of violence.
