Wall Street’s role in the Greek debt crisis will come under greater scrutiny after Eurostat, the EU's statistical office, requested information February 2010 from Greece about currency swaps in the early years of the decade.

This development came as the European Commission moved to tighten control over member states’ book-keeping. It approved proposals on the 15 February 2010 that would strengthen Eurostat’s hand to audit governments’ finances and ensure they provided accurate data.
