During the Foreign Affairs Council, Brussels, 9 February 2014, EU ministers decided to extended its Russian ban list to 19 individuals and nine entities more. However, this would be delayed for one week, in order not to disrupt peace talks in Minsk on 11 February 2015 [Click here for more information on these meetings]. The Council stated the visa bans and asset freeze would only enter into life on 16 February 2015 if there was no breakthrough at the Minsk event. The sanctions, officially termed 'restrictive measures in respect of actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine', were eventually imposed on Russia, despite the agreement being reached. |
