Financial Times interview with Neelie Kroes, new European Commissioner for Competition. Ms Kroes is proposing a sweeping reform of EU rules on state aid, moving subsidies from big, failing companies to small and innovative businesses. Ms Kroes also wants to make it harder for richer countries to support their poorer regions - she argues that such subsidies should only be granted when a Member State as a whole is economically weak.
