In March 2015, EU digital commissioner Andrus Ansip presented the European Commission's strategy concerning the Digital Single Market (as you can check by clicking here). One of the priorities would be to eliminate geo-blocking within the EU, as in his view such was not supposed to exist together with an internal, single market.

However, a week later, his fellow commissioner Gunther Oettinger showed a different opinion and much less enthusiasm about this idea. While agreeing with the principle, Mr Oettinger was careful to state he would like to hear from the film industry on this subject.
