Summary: Code of Practice on Disinformation agreed in September 2018 by representatives of online platforms, leading social networks and other stakeholders. Further information: The agreement on the Code of Practice was reached on 26 September 2018. It aims at achieving the objectives set out by the European Commission in the Communication adopted in April 2018 by setting a range of commitments, from further transparency to the closure of fake accounts and demonetisation of purveyors of disinformation. The adoption of this Code of Practice was the result of a multi-stakeholder forum organised by the Commission in May 2018. On 16 October, stakeholders handed over to the European Commission a set of individual roadmaps which outline concrete steps to implemeht the Code of Practice. On 29 January 2019, the European Commission published the first implementation reports from different stakeholders, taken by online companies and advertising sector by 31 December 2018. On 28 February, the second set of reports was released, followed by a third one on 23 April. |
