EU budget: EU budget 2000. The Commission has launched the process leading up to adoption of the EU budget for the year 2000. This will be the first budget within a new financial framework that is still being negotiated within the Agenda 2000 framework. In internal policies the process of concentration on employment and growth-oriented spending will continue, with a new emphasis on implementation of the Amsterdam Treaty. The main focus in external spending will be on the launch of pre-accession assistance. The Commission will now go on to prepare the Preliminary Draft Budget on the basis of these orientations, which should be adopted at the end of April 1999. |
