EU budget: ECJ judgment causes review of EU spending

The European Commission has decided to take action after a recent ruling of the European Court of Justice (Case C-106/96 of 12.5.98) which clarified the legal requirements for the execution of the EU budget. The Commission has launched a review of a number of budget lines without a legal basis and decided to suspend their execution temporarily.
