In a statement on 3 April 2002 the President of the European Commission, Romano Prodi, said that mediation efforts in the Middle East had failed and there was not enough action by the United States. Mr Prodi dismissed any suggestion that the European Union should use its trade agreement with Israel to exert pressure. |
