Further information: The funding aims at helping addressing the basic needs of the most vulnerable populations along the contect line including in the non-government controlled areas. It aims to help those who fled the conflict areas to neighbouring countries. Background information: The funding came as the European Commission and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs organised a high-level conference in Brussels to raise awareness about the humanitarian consequences of the conflict in eastern Ukraine. The European Union and its Member States are the biggest donors of humanitarian aid, early recovery and development assistance to Ukraine. Since the beginning of the conflict in 2014, and together with this announcement, the European Union provided up to this point over €677 million. The European Commission announced on 28 February 2018 the allocation of €24 million in humanitarian assistance to address the needs of conflict-affected people in eastern Ukraine. |
