The Union will provide 70&percent; funding for buy-up programmes covering 100,000 pigs and 45,000 piglets in Germany, and 350,000 pigs and 450,000 piglets in the Netherlands. Several thousand pigs have already been destroyed following the discovery of the disease. Export bans have been imposed on pigmeat from areas of Germany and the Netherlands.
