The European Commission established on 14 November 2017 a Taskforce on Subsidiarity, Proportionality and 'Doing Less More Efficiently'. Further information: The Task Force was intended to report to the President by July 2018, making recommendations on how to better apply the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality, identifying policy areas where work could be re-delegated or definitely returned to Member States, as well as ways to better involve regional and local authorities in EU policy making and delivery. The team started its work in January 2018 and was chaired by the First Vice-President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans. It reported back to the European Commission President on the 10 July 2018. Members for the Task Force were appointed on 18 January 2018 being a mixture of representatives of national parliaments and local and regional parliaments. Background information: The Task Force was created in the context of the Better Regulation Agenda, which among other objectives aims to ensure that as much work as possible is left in the hands of Member States. The Commission further developed this concept in its White Paper on the Future of Europe, which presented 5 scenarios, including one entitled 'Doing Less More Efficiently'. |
