The Turkish Government announced on the 12 November 2013 that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) had joined the European Conservatives and Reformists political family. The government announced that AKP had abandoned plans to join the centre-right European Peoples’ Party (EPP) and had instead become a member of the Alliance of European Conservative and Reformists and one of the four vice presidencies in the Alliance had been assumed by AK Party Vice Chairman Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu. The Romanian New Republic Party and the ruling Faroese People’s Party also joined the AECR. |
