The environmental statement aims to describe the environmental management system (EMAS) in place at the European Economic and Social Committee and the European Committee of the Regions. After more than five years of EMAS registration, the challenge – in addition to improving the results already achieved – is to take action on new environmental aspects. In 2015 therefore, bearing in mind the significant impact of food on the environment, the Institutions reorganised their catering services for staff and at events. More generally, all activities involving their contractors were re-examined in the context of «green public procurement», as they implemented key aspects of their environmental management system. For example, their technical equipment maintenance contractor was cooperating with the EESC and CoT to reduce gas, electricity and water consumption. |
