Introductory website: The most ambitious enlargement ever of the EU is under preparation. When it is completed, the EU will comprise most of the continent of Europe. It will consolidate peace and democracy, and allow all the people of Europe to live together in the single area of freedom, security and justice that the European Union is striving to create. An area resting on the fundamental principles of respect for human rights, transparency and good governance, reaching out to common goals such as the mutual recognition of judicial decisions, approximation of laws for certain types of crime and improved judicial and police cooperation
