The European Parliament's plenary session approved on 5 April 2017 a proposal establishing uniform rules on information given in investor prospectuses. The draft law - agreed between the institutions - aims to protect investors, create a more efficience single capital market and ease small firms' access to finance. These rules state that information provided by a prospectus must enable investors to make an informed assessment of assets, liabilities, profits, loses and rights attached to investment products. The proposed legislation was put forward by the European Commission in November 2015. An informal agreement on the document was reached between the Parliament and the Council of the European Union on 8 December 2016 and endorsed by the latter's committe of permanent representatives some days later. |
