The European Parliament's agriculture committee approved on 8 November 2016 a non-legislative resolution on the development of risk management tools to help farmers to handle food price volatility in agricultural markets. The resolution argues that development of such tools are essential to help farmers to cope with volatile prices and strengthen their bargaining position in the food supply chain, which should also be made more transparent. The EU budget should also be made more flexible, so that funds can be deployed faster to tackle crises, according to the text. The text still waited for scrutiny by the plenary session. |
