A new red-green coalition government, led by a female Prime Minister and deputy, in the North Rhine-Westphalia Land, July 2010, deprived German Chancellor Angela Merkel of her centre-right majority in the Bundesrat, where the federal states vote. It would make adopting legislation more difficult. And 'red-green' could be a disturbing indicator of what might happen at the next general election.
