The new parliamentary Committee was launched on 8 October 2008, following the 'no' vote in the referendum in Ireland, 12 June 2008, on the Treaty of Lisbon. Its purpose is to build the broadest possible political consensus on the next steps for Ireland in Europe in the aftermath of the referendum. Senator Paschal Donohoe was elected as Chairman of the Sub-Committee.
