Education, Youth, Culture and Sports Council, 18-19 May 2015

A meeting of the Education, Youth, Culture and Sports Council was held on 18-19 May 2015. The agenda included the following topics:

+ Debate on the future of the European audiovisual policy, following the European Commission's communication on a digital single market strategy for Europe. It focused on two main issues: the audiovisual aspects of the digital single market strategy and the functioning of the audiovisual media services directive in the context of the geopolitical situation;

+ Exchange of views on European cooperation in education and training, as part of the mid-term review of the ET 2020 strategic framework;

+ Briefing on the follow-up of the informal meeting of EU Education Ministers in March, on promoting citizenship and the common values of freedom, tolerance and non-discrimination through education;

+ Debate on how to empower young people for political participation in the democratic life of Europe, taking into account the input from the youth representatives in the framework of the 'structured dialogue'.
