1999 Annual Economic Report. The Commission adopted the 1999 Annual Economic Report on 20.1.99. This comprehensive analysis of the economic situation in the EU is based upon the figures published in the Autumn economic forecasts and provides the starting points for the preparation of the broad economic policy guidelines which will be adopted by the European Council in June. The central message is that the EU economy benefited from strong growth (2.9%) in 1998, but that the outlook for 1999 is less favourable as a result of world economic difficulties.
