Jan Kees de Jager, the Dutch Finance Minister, endorsed a more active role for the European Central Bank on the 24 November 2011 'as a last resort' to contain the eurozone debt crisis ahead of an imminent meeting in Berlin with his counterparts from Germany and Finland. The Netherlands and Finland had until then appeared close to Germany’s position of opposing major intervention by the ECB as part of a firewall against the spreading eurozone debt crisis but appeared to be taking a more pragmatic line as the crisis heightened. |
