The package of economic governance reforms put forward by the European Commission in 2010 will strengthen the Stability and Growth Pact (SGP) through an increased focus on public debt and fiscal sustainability, the extension of surveillance to macroeconomic imbalances and structural reforms, and by making enforcement more effective. National fiscal frameworks will also be strengthened and better aligned with the new economic governance rules. Further articles in this issue are: + Klaus Regling, head of the EFSF, on EU governance + Employment in Europe: it could have been worse but there’s still work to be done + Financial sector reform nearing the finish line + Tax reform: increasing revenue without compromising growth [Note: this is the last issue of European Economy News available in a paper format.
