Summary:Directive (EU) 2024/2839 - adopted by the co-legislators on 23 October 2024 - introducing amendments to Directive 1999/2/EC, Directive 2000/14/EC, Directive 2011/24/EU and Directive 2014/53/EU as regards certain reporting requirements in the fields of food and food ingredients, outdoor noise, patients’ rights, and radio equipment. This is a text with EEA relevance. Further information:In its Communication on Long-term competitiveness in the EU (2023), the European Commission stressed the importance of a regulatory system that ensures that objectives are reached at minimum costs. It therefore committed to a fresh push to rationalise and simplify reporting requirements to reduce the burden without undermining related policy aims. Reporting requirements are essential in ensuring correct enforcement and proper monitoring of legislation. Their costs are largely offset by the benefit they bring. However, they can also impose disproportionate burdens on stakeholders, particularly affecting SMEs and micro-companies. Organisational and technological developments also call for original requirements to be adjusted. This Directive seeks to rationalise reporting obligations in the area of internal market, food safety and health, with an impact on outdoor equipment and the radio equipment industry/sectors as well as sectors related to food treated with ionising radiation and on cross-border healthcare. It removes reporting obligations that are not necessary, or the frequency for reporting obligation of Member States. A draft text was adopted by the European Commission on 23 October 2023. The plenary of the European Parliament endorsed the text on 14 March 2024. The Council of the European Union adopted the text for a proposed Directive on 14 October. The Act was signed by the co-legislators on 23 October 2024 and published in the Official Journal on 6 November 2024. |
