Summary:Directive (EU) 2019/1152 - formally adopted by the co-legislators on 20 June 2019 - focusing on transparent and predictable working conditions in the European Union (EU). Further information:This Directive complements and modernises existing obligations to inform each worker of his or her working conditions. In addition, it creates new minimum standards to ensure that all workers, including those on atypical contracts, benefit from more predictability and clarity as regards their working conditions. The Directive updates and replaces Directive 91/553/EC - also known as Written Statement Directive - in the framework of the European Pillar of Social Rights. Two rounds of consultations were held in the lead-up to the release of the draft law. The European Commission put it forward on 21 December 2017. The Council of the European Union adopted a general approach on 21 June 2018 and the European Parliament's plenary session approved a negotiating mandate on 15 November. An informal agreement between the co-legislators on a compromise text for this file was reached on 7 February 2019. The Parliament formally endorsed this agreement on 16 April, followed by the Council on 13 June. The Act was formally signed by the co-legislators on 20 June 2019, and published in the Official Journal on 11 July 2019. It entered into force on 1 August 2022. |
