Summary: Directive 2010/13/EU - formally adopted by the co-legislators on 10 March 2010 - governing coordination of national legislation across the European Union (EU) on all audiovisual media, both traditional TV broadcasts and on-demand audiovisual media services. This legal act is known as the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD). This is a text with EEA relevance. Further information: The main aim of this Directive is to create and ensure the proper functioning of a single EU market for audiovisual media services, while contributing to the promotion of cultural diversity and providing an adequate level of consumer and child protection. The European Commission tabled the proposal for this Directive on 21 April 2009, aiming to undertake a codification of Directive 89/552/EEC and to supersede the various acts incorporated in it. The draft law was adopted by the European Parliament on 20 October. It was re-tabled by the Commission on 2 December 2009 to address consequences of the entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon in ongoing inter-institutional decision-making procedures. On 15 February 2010, the Council of the European Union endorsed the draft law as seen by the European Parliament. The Act was signed by the co-legislators on 10 March 2010 and published in the Official Journal on 15 April 2010. This Directive was amended by Directive (EU) 2018/1808. |
